Introduction

We’re excited to share some important updates to our pricing and packaging related to Assets objects that will help us continue delivering value and innovation to our customers.

Why We’re Making These Changes

To make scaling the use of Assets more affordable for everyone, we’re decreasing the cost per Asset object and increasing the Enterprise edition allowance to ensure our largest customers have the flexibility and capacity they need. Both changes are designed to deliver more value, support your growth, and reflect our ongoing commitment to customer success.

What’s Changing

Overview: In September 2024, customers received communications about updates to Jira Service Management’s (JSM) pricing & packaging, including the introduction of consumption-based pricing (CBP) for Assets and Virtual Service Agent usage.
October 16, 2024: When CBP became effective, Assets objects were priced at $0.05 per object per month, and only JSM Premium and Enterprise customers were eligible to purchase, with an automatic allowance of 50K objects.
Effective October 7, 2025: Assets objects are now cheaper, priced at $0.02 per object per month, and paid JSM customers, on Premium (automatic allowance of 50K) and Enterprise (automatic allowance of 500K), are provided, able to use, and can purchase more Assets objects for less.

What This Means for Existing Customers

Recent Purchases at Previous Rates

We understand that some customers may have recently purchased additional Asset objects or upgraded their plans at the previous pricing. To ensure fairness:

Credit Memos: If you purchased additional Asset objects prior to this change on October 7, 2025, you will automatically receive a credit memo for the price difference. This credit will be applied to your next invoice.
Refunds: If you prefer a direct refund instead of a credit memo, please contact our support team, and we’ll be happy to assist.

Contractual Adjustments

If you’re on a long-term contract, your new Asset object allowance will be updated automatically. There’s no action required on your part, and you’ll see the changes reflected in your next billing cycle.

1. What exactly is changing with Assets pricing and packaging?

The price per Asset object is being reduced (e.g., from $0.05 to $0.02 per object per month).

Customers who purchased additional Asset objects shortly before the price change may be eligible for a credit memo or refund for the price difference.

No, your existing Asset objects will continue to function as before.
If your usage is within the new, higher allowance, you may no longer incur overage charges.

JSM Premium and Enterprise customers are eligible for the new pricing.
You will receive direct communication if your site is impacted, and you can check your billing or admin screens for updated information.

You should still be granted additional asset objects based on licensing quantities. For example, a premium account with 1000 licenses should have more asset allowances vs a premium account with 50 licenses. Your licensing could be 50k + 100 per license or something like that. Also, asset objects are like a table entry in a database - even $0.02 seems overly expensive.

If you have JSM and Jira do you get 50K + 50k

If you have Jira Enterprise and JSM Premium do you get 500k + 50k?

Besides that I still think we are getting mugged here. We purchased JSM with Assets included - then you take it away under a Pay Per Use license (and JSM prices went up not down...) and do not take into account the amount of user licenses you have as @Mullin, Joe rightly states.

The argument 'but look at all the new features that we bring you' does not make sense because it is being used both ways.

Well this change is not great for our environment. We have been using 'Assets' since Jira Server @ 6-7 years ago now. We are way over on the Object limit for our environment. We are using a discovery agent for our computer info and want to keep historical records (tickets linked to the object, even retired/recycled) but now have to evaluate based on cost. Is it worth the .02 cents per month? Probably not for a smaller not for profit Hospital.

From my perspective this is actually a meaningful improvement. Assets can get expensive fast once you start modeling real infrastructure, so reducing the per object cost helps a lot. The increased Enterprise allowance also makes sense for larger orgs that were constantly dancing around limits. Overall it feels like a rare pricing change that genuinely adds value instead of just reshuffling costs.

Thanks for the detailed update! Reducing the per-object cost and increasing allowances for Enterprise customers is a welcome change, making scaling Assets much more affordable and flexible. I also appreciate the clarification about credits and refunds for recent purchases; it shows a thoughtful approach to existing customers.
